The
first BVONO store was established in 1926 in Matera,in Via S. Biagio, by Rocco
Luigi Buono, upon his return from the United States, where he worked for a
time in the tanneries. With the money and expertise gained in America, he
founded his store which sold men's wear and men's accessories.
From
1926 to World War II, the company grew steadily in size and in the range of
products it offered its clientele. Though the ravages of World War II brought
the company to its knees, hard work and a fierce desire to rebuild brought
the store back to its former glory.
1950
When the founder passed away, his son, Eustachio Buono, took over the company.
The second generation of Buono management turned the small company into
the leading fashion store. Headquarters were moved to Corso Umberto I and
the store was turned into a major men's wear emporium, where the finest
in men's wear could be found.
1970
- The '70s were years of growth as Eustachio Buono's wife, Maria Pia Isonzo,
joined the company. She founded the women's wear division.
1988
- Brand-new premises housed both lines; the store soon became so successful
that a new store, Gatsby, was opened in 1988. Gatsby carried avant-garde fashion
lines, the fashion of the future -- a concept store. Three generations of
the Buono family: Paolo Buono and Rocco Buono joined the company, Paolo running
Buono Classic, which offered classic fashion, moving to its present site in
Via del Corso 60, and Rocco running Gatsby , with its spin-offs of Camicieria,
a shirt factory and men's and women's apparel
1990
- Buono Valigeria and onother store
called Buono Le occasioni opened in Matera. Buono Valigeria offers a wide
range of Samsonite luggage and travel accessories. Buono Le Occasioni opened
as well, where last year's garments can be found at bargain prices. Tragically,
Paolo Buono died in August, 1990 in a traffic accident. Gatsby closed down
and Rocco Buono took over the management of Buono Classic.
1992
- BVONO Le Muse opened in 1992, a store
with a wide range of women's wear, and what used to be Gatsby became Buono
Le Muse dedicated to women's fashion.
1999
- the Nest co.ltd company of Japan make a join venture with Bvono to make
production under Bvono label license.
2000
- BVONO J opened in July of 2000. In this store the sister Francesca Buono
envelope the concept of the fashion. BVONO J is a store dedicated to unisex
fashion jeans, a store with an exciting new production and sales philosophy
based on style and taste. Video screens and virtual mirrors allow clients
to try the clothes on and see themselves on-screen so that they can come up
with a fashion mix which suits them.
